A New OS to Compete with Leopard and Vista?
You may not have heard of Glide OS 3.o. That is because it is not like Linux, OS X Leopard, or even Microsoft Vista. Glide takes advantage of the internet to allow users to access their “desktop” virtually from any computer any where in the world with an internet connection. And that is fast becoming the norm. Glide offers all the same features as traditional operating systems, only with a twist. The virtual operating system offers you familiar software to write documents, make presentations, and share those with friends or business associates. And, because you are connected to the internet, you have that power as well, allowing you to access to the world.

Revisiting the site, some things aren’t as easy as say the Mac operating system. Here are some quick Pro’s and Con’s to sum up this alternative to the “Big 3″ operating systems.
Pro’s:
- Free- while the other systems cost around $129 or more, Glide is a free alternative, which can be utilized on public computers at internet cafes and libraries
- Mobile- no longer feel the need to take your laptop everywhere. You can now use a public computer to download files, share files etc. to get things done.
- Web 2.0- this is where the web is headed. I believe that operating systems will still be important, but using the web will allow more connectivity and sharing ability as we are seeing the explosion of social media sites across the board
- Sync to Your Desktop-you can sync your desktop to your Glide desktop account so that you can access your files easily from anywhere in the world using just an internet connection.
Con’s:
- Not Broken In Yet- this is still new technology. While it is a great idea and a great step in the right direction, there are still kinks to fix, as with all new things. Version 3.0 is a big improvement from version 1.0, with still a lot more to go
- May Not be Practical- this may be more of a “second computer” or mobile device that is used with your main computer rather than your primary desktop.
- Trustworthy- People may feel safe with social media sites, but may have a hard time adapting to using a virtual desktop. This may be a slow transition as people tend to like to have their personal computers remain personal. While their Glide account would be personal, the fact that it is accessed over the internet may give the feeling of untrustworthiness.
Conclusion
In my opinion, Glide 3.0 is on its way as the new way people use computers and where operating systems are heading. However, with that being said, I think that it will be a slower transition for some as the trustworthiness may play a big factor. I use my account as an “extra.” In other words, if I am traveling and am not able to bring my laptop, then this is an alternative that I can utilize. Although, Google has a similar suite of software linked to Gmail, which allows for easy access.
If you are wanting to be on the front end of new technology, this is one to definitely check out. Why not, it’s free!
