Harness The Power of Mindset

Understanding states of mind can ultimately allow you to be able to better analyze yourself, people, and companies on perspectives and then decide how best to proceed. From a personal standpoint, that may be coming to realization with yourself that you feel strongly one way on a topic and that will not change. Knowing that, you can limit the amount of negative impact that has on your life and focus on sharing that perspective with like-minded people.

As a company, the mindset of the organization will drive the company towards success or failure. Another way to think of a mindset of a company is to look at their culture. The culture should tell a story of how and why the organization was formed, what it stands for, and what it is ultimately striving for. However, sadly, this may not be very apparent in companies that are not consciously and pro-actively working on their brand and identity which will ultimately determines their culture.

In all relationships, people are trying to understand other people. Communication through words never tells the whole story. Body language, tone of voice, and facial expressions play a much larger role. Words are used to try to cover up what the body is showing: it’s true feelings. By grasping the concepts of mindset, you can begin to break people apart to see where they are coming from. Once you get an idea of their perspective, even if you do not completely agree with it, try to view the conversation from that perspective. The idea is that adapting and evolving yourself will lead you to a place where you will have your points of view, but will be able to listen to others without outward objection.

Two Distinct And Powerful Mindsets

Mindset: The New Psychology of Success

Your mindset is a powerful state of consciousness. What you put into it is what you will get out of it. How you think of yourself will be reflected through your tone of voice, body language and the words you use. Think carefully about who you want to become. Then focus on telling yourself in a positive manner that you will become that person that you envision. In essence, you are branding yourself. And this is more important than it appears to be.

Carol S. Dweck, author of the book Mindset, writes about two distinct mindsets, the growth mindset and the fixed mindset.

Fixed mindset: where you feel that you know all the skills you need to know and you must deal with the skills you have. In this state of mind, you will not acquire any new skills.

Growth mindset: where you feel that you have a number of skills and you know that you will increase and improve your current skills over time. In other words, you will continue to learn and grow as long as you live.

How This Relates to Business

For the service industry, this is more important than some would believe. The service industry is about relationships in order to acquire accounts or contracts. And beyond that one account or contract, the idea is to keep that client and have them pay you multiple times over the years. So how you are perceived and the vibes that you give off will directly affect how long your clients stay with you.

Something To Try

Think about your current state of mind. Do you feel positive or negative about yourself? How do you feel others view and perceive you? The same questions can be asked about a company. As you start to shift your mind, you will start to see more opportunities and to grow as both a person and a company.
