Slightly Off Topic…Some Thoughts
This post is slightly off my main topic of business development, branding and identity. I say slightly because it is still connected, yet is on a personal level. While the economic downturn has caused and continues to cause damage around the world, I still choose to see the world as a positive place. From this perspective, I can assure you that things continue to run smoothly, opportunities are easier to spot than ever, and I only wish there were more time in the day to do everything.
When the going gets rough, the tough get going
This old addage speaks volumes in these times. I have been noticing that the people who have been laying down a foundation, even in the “good times” are now benefitting more in these “bad times.” This has to do with many things, one of which is a rare characteristic. Determination, perseverance, and passion are what drive people through these times. All three must be present and maxed out- as for many it is back to basics, almost a cut throat survival of the fittest.
Is That A Bad Thing?
Is survival of the fittest a bad thing? I don’t necessarily think it is. I, myself, have found that I thrive in survival mode situations. I don’t necessarily like it as it can be quite stressful, yet afterwords, I can see how much I have grown, how much I have learned, and where I want to go next.
You Have the Power of Choice Everyday
A recurring theme that has come up in my research is that you have the choice to choose how to live your life everyday. This is very powerful because it is placing your life on your shoulders. Too many times people become dependant on others, them blame those same people when things go wrong. By choosing how you want to live and feel everyday, you are transferring that power to yourself. And it is up to you to choose how you want to live. I would suggest living a more positive life- as it will open up possibilities for you.
Stay Positive
For business owners, entrepreneurs, employees, and those who have lost their jobs, stay positive. As I have been saying for the last three months, you must network, interact, meet people, and make connections. You never know who you will meet, where you might end up or what could happen. Yes, jobs may seem scarce. But they are out there. Be flexible, be adaptive, be willing to relocate to make it happen. And most of all don’t settle. You may be thinking that, if I could get a job, any job, I’ll take it. Don’t rush into a job and lower the value of your work.
