Mobile Lifestyle: Packing Light
Preparing for my business trip to Guam, I decided to search Google for tips on packing lighter and smarter. Not owning a whole lot helps, but I wanted to find out how I can better pack what I do own. At the top of the search list was OneBag.com, a website that has all sorts of tips on packing light and even how to pack and have no luggage! Needless to say, that won’t work in my situation.
I tend to try and pack as light as I can manage, but it seems as though I am not being as efficient with space as I could be. This will be a work in progress and a trial and error process, but I did find some good tips that I hadn’t thought of before.
Here are some great packing tips that I found:
1. Learn What to Pack: This is a big one. Seems pretty obvious, but when rushed, this tip tends to fly out the window. At least it does for me. Rather than trying to bring everything, focus on the absolutely necessary items you need.
2. Learn What to Pack It In: Suitcases come in all different shapes and sizes. There are some that are better than others. Figuring out which has the best compartments for your things is especially important to keeping your load light.
3. Bundle Your Clothes; Don’t Fold: This is an interesting technique that has been around for a long time. By bundling your clothes in a particular order, you can have less wrinkles and creases and actually create a smaller clothes footprint in your suitcase. You can read about it more here.
I think I will try out the clothes bundle for my upcoming trip. Do you have any great packing tips or tricks? How about a suitcase or brand that has been a great traveling companion? I’d love to hear from you- leave a comment below.
