What is success? How can you define such a subjective concept? In each an every activity we do, we measure our performance against ourselves, against competitors, friends, enemies, celebrities, and star athletes. When you compare your success to others, it often times backfires. When you are stuck in a state of mind that only allows you to see that you will never be as good as so and so, it limits you tremendously.
When you envision success in your minds eye, down to every detail of how it will look, feel, taste, smell, hear, and you truly believe in that outcome, most likely you will encounter some degree of success. Why is this? Carol S Dweck, author of the book Mindset, showed many case studies where the subject consciously thought about winning and success as they continued to practice their skill-set. In other words, it was not enough for Michael Jordan to practice shooting, he had to envision the ball going in the basket just as much.
In business, and especially the service industry, success often is found not only in the execution of the service, but in the relationship formed and in the confidence that is shown to the client. The confidence you show in yourself and your company from the beginning of a client relationship could play a large role in determining the success rate with that client over the long run.
