Many people start businesses as a way to get away from being told what to do, only to find out that they need to tell themselves what to do. Others start businesses because they feel they can earn more by having their own practice, yet struggle with day to day operations and managing an office as well as selling work and researching prospective clients. And yet, others start businesses not because they want to be in business, but because they want to do something that they enjoy doing. They may enjoy what they do, but have a hard time paying the bills and keeping the business going.

Leadership is something that fascinates me. I am consistently inspired by those who are able to lead, yet remain calm and empower their teams and organizations. Leaders have learned a variety of skills and use them all in an integrated way to connect with their team. One of the many skills is the understanding of people. Your team, after all, is made up of people. How you connect with them will determine how willing they are to support your vision and fulfill the mission. This is true whether you are the leader in a small committee or whether you run a multi-national corporation. The leader's role is to inspire and empower and excite their team members to want to support the vision and fulfill the mission.

I love the fact that technology is moving into what is being called "the Post-PC" era where individuals and businesses can start to literally work from anywhere in the world because they are not tied to a desk and an office. Mobile devices such as the iPhone and iPad are leading this transition away from desktop computers. I absolutely love my MacBook and don't think I could part with it just yet. Hopefully laptops will stay around a bit longer.

Service professionals are in contact with their clients and customers on regular basis. This interaction is so often, that many times personal relationships are formed and the lines between business and friendship get blurred. I have written about this previously, cautioning to make sure that the professional services offered have a well thought-out designed experience to help guide the client from A to B. Related to this designed experience is to empower your team to stay in character and aligned to the mission of the brand while interacting with clients. Often, this is overlooked or seen as something that is already understood and therefore is not worth mentioning. However, because service professionals interact with their clients and customers directly and so often, it is more important that they truly believe in and support the mission of the brand that they have chosen to work for. So it begs the question, what happens when the brand experience is disrupted?

What about trademarks and service marks? Is your written work copyrighted? And how can you protect yourself from the liability of the company?
Throughout the last two years, I have blogged and offered tips and strategies on how to implement systems into your business in order to free up time and increase efficiency and be more profitable. I have made a conscious effort to not bombard my readers and visitors with offers for products and services and google ads just to make money. That is not the main purpose of this blog. However, with that being said, the goal of this blog is to become a resource that you can use, bookmark, and come back to, to help you get your business running more efficiently. Therefore, I have added a Resources section to this site.
